Building a Cleaner Future
The Central Coast has been our home for over nine decades. As a family-owned company, we've always believed that taking care of our communities means taking care of the environment they depend on.
From recycling and organics processing to landfill diversion and environmental education, MarBorg is committed to finding better ways to recover resources and reduce waste. Every day, our team works to help residents, businesses, contractors, and event organizers make choices that support a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Sustainability isn't a separate initiative at MarBorg - it's a continuation of the values that have guided our company since the beginning: responsibility, stewardship, and service to our community.
Our Approach
Long before recycling was standard practice, our founders, Mario and Charles Borgatello were already sorting materials, recovering what could be reused, and finding better ways to reduce waste. That same mindset still drives how MarBorg operates today - focus on what works, reduce what doesn’t, and keep improving over time.
What We’re Doing Today
Cleaner Equipment & Fleet
We’ve invested heavily in cleaner, more efficient equipment - from CNG to electric collection and sorting vehicles. These improvements reduce emissions, improve performance, and keep our operation running more efficiently.
Recycling and Diversion
MarBorg Industries is the single largest source of landfill diversion in Santa Barbara County. We actively work with businesses, contractors, and residents to make recycling simple and effective.
Smarter Operations
From routing to communication, we’re improving how work gets done in the field by utilizing new technology. Fewer missed pickups, fewer unnecessary trips, and better coordination all contribute to a more efficient, lower-impact operation.
Local Impact
As a locally owned company, the work we do stays here - the place we also call home. We’re focused on keeping our communities clean, supporting local initiatives, and being accountable to the areas we serve.
Waste Reduction
We reduce waste across our operations, from using reusable materials in our facilities to supporting composting and food scrap programs. We also actively divert materials through recycling, including comingled recycling, batteries, and e-waste.
Water Conservation
Our facilities use over 20% less indoor water through efficient fixtures and systems. Outside, drought-tolerant landscaping and minimal irrigation keep water use low.
Energy Efficiency
Our headquarters ranks among the top-performing buildings of its type nationwide. On-site solar helps offset a portion of our daily energy use and improves overall efficiency.
Committed to a Cleaner Future
We’re focused on making steady, practical improvements - reducing waste, improving efficiency, and operating more responsibly over time. It’s not about big statements, it’s about serving the Central Coast by doing the job better every day.
