Transforming Waste Into Valuable Resources

Located at the Tajiguas Landfill along the Gaviota Coast, Santa Barbara County's ReSource Center is changing the way our region manages waste. Built by the County's Public Works Department, this state-of-the-art facility is designed to recover valuable materials that would have otherwise been buried in the landfill.

Today, much of what arrives at Tajiguas - including food scraps, green waste, wood, and recyclable materials - can be recovered and put to better use. The ReSource Center captures these materials and transforms them into recyclable commodities, nutrient-rich compost, and renewable energy.

The facility plays a key role in helping the South Coast and Santa Ynez Valley reduce landfill disposal, increase recycling, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and meet California's environmental goals. It also creates approximately 100 permanent, living-wage jobs for our community.

MarBorg Recovery proudly operates the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at the ReSource Center, helping ensure these materials are processed efficiently and responsibly.

Without the ReSource Center, Tajiguas Landfill was projected to reach capacity within the next several years. By recovering and diverting valuable materials before they are buried, the facility is expected to extend the landfill's operational life by approximately 10 years while creating a more sustainable future for Santa Barbara County.
