In January of 2019, California became the 23rd state to enact a "Slow Down to Get Around" law. This law became effective January 1st, 2020. Slow Down to Get Around laws save lives by requiring drivers to exercise caution and avoid distractions when they approach a waste and recycling collection truck.

The Community Environmental Council (CEC) will host the 49th Annual Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival at Alameda Park Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28, 2019. The 2019 festival – which is free to attend – is broken into zones, each created around a specific theme. In addition, there will be two full days of live music performances, speakers, the largest Green Car Show on the Central Coast, family programming, and the presentation of an Environmental Hero Award.

The County is excited to announce the kick-off of a new medication collection program funded and operated by the pharmaceutical industry. Resulting from an ordinance passed by the Board of Supervisors, the new program provides residents with a free and convenient way to dispose of unwanted household medications. Over-the-counter and prescription medications are accepted at participating collection sites throughout the county.
