In January of 2019, California became the 23rd state to enact a "Slow Down to Get Around" law. This law became effective January 1st, 2020. Slow Down to Get Around laws save lives by requiring drivers to exercise caution and avoid distractions when they approach a waste and recycling collection truck.

How this affects you: As of January 1, 2019 it is the law that businesses that generate four cubic yards of solid waste per week must recycle their organic waste. The Community Environmental Council (CEC) will host the 49th Annual Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival at Alameda Park Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28, 2019. The 2019 festival – which is free to attend – is broken into zones, each created around a specific theme. In addition, there will be two full days of live music performances, speakers, the largest Green Car Show on the Central Coast, family programming, and the presentation of an Environmental Hero Award.
