Construction & Demolition Recycling Facility Information
MarBorg Industries is the leading recycling company in the area and has developed a recycling center that is not only revolutionary for this region, but was the first such facility in all of California - and possibly the United States. Our investments in recycling have made MarBorg the most significant source of recycling in the City of Santa Barbara. MarBorg opened the Construction and Demolition (Construction & Demolition) recycling facility in 2005.
This facility is responsible for keeping all of the jurisdictions which MarBorg serves compliant with state law, which mandates that each jurisdiction must recycle 50% of the waste they generate or face fines of up to $10,000 per day. The Construction & Demolition recycling facility is capable of recycling 1,500 tons of material per day. We have set a goal of recycling one million tons by 2010.
Facts About the New Construction & Demolition Recycling Facility:
- The facility is the single largest source of recycling in the City of Santa Barbara.
- The facility recycles more than 150,000 tons of construction and demolition material per year.
- It would take city residents more than 13 years to generate 150,000 tons of commingled recyclables.
- MarBorg's facility recycles as much material in one day as the city’s commingled recycling program recycles in one month.
- The facility is responsible for keeping the City of Santa Barbara in compliance with State recycling laws (AB939).
- Failure to comply with state recycling laws results in fines up to $10,000 per day.
- The facility is large enough to accept large end dump trucks that come from large construction sites.
- The facility is centrally located for use by contractors and demolition companies working in our community.
- Marborg provided 100% of the financial investment in the facility, which provides necessary recycling at no cost to the city rate payer.
- Every ton recycled at the MarBorg facility extends the life of the Tajiguas landfill.
- If the Tajiguas landfill had to be closed and another landfill created, it would be of tremendous cost to City rate payers.
- The MarBorg facility is fully permitted by all applicable federal, state & local agencies to perform required recycling.
